A Family Business Since 1908

The year was 1908. Joseph Bauman, an Irondequoit native, purchased the land that is now Bauman’s Farm Market at auction on the steps of the county courthouse. He and his wife, Emma, primarily used the land as a dairy farm, and ran it as such until 1951. At that time, their son Jim Bauman took over. In 1957, he and his wife Barbara expanded the business to include field crops such as beans and tomatoes. A small market stand was set up outside the homestead.

Jim Bauman passed away in 1974 and his son, also Jim Bauman, helped run the farm with his mother, Barbara. In 1983, Jim and his wife, also named Barbara, bought the farm from his mother and they continue to operate the business to this day. Today, Jim has expanded the market to include a wide selection of greenhouse plants. His brother, Mark, helps to run the Christmas tree operations. Jim's five children also help out on the farm, and with two wonderful grandchildren they hope to keep the business in the family for many more years to come.
